Offering Hybrid Custom Contact Lenses at St. Charles Vision
Ahead of the Curve in Innovative Eye Care for Patients with Normally Hard-to-Fit Corneas SynergEyes® Hybrid Contacts Combine the Crisp Visual Acuity of a Hard Contact with the Comfort of a Soft Contact
Throughout the Greater New Orleans Area, locally owned, St. Charles Vision is known for its high fashion eye wear and commitment to being the city’s contact lens specialists. In keeping with its “Look Forward” quest, this group of eye care specialists is now offering the pioneering hybrid contact lens, SynergEyes®. This modern design of contact lenses is targeted towards those who have an abnormal surface of the Cornea and normally have difficulty wearing contacts, such as, patients with Astigmatism, nearsightedness, bi-focals, the eye disease Keratoconus, which is the thinning of the cornea, in addition to those who have experienced complications post eye surgery.
“These contacts have changed my life,” stated St. Charles Vision patient and SynergEyes user, Donna Zaffuto, “I had been wearing hard contact lenses for 15 years and it got to the point where they were causing abrasions; then I discovered that I had Keratoconus. In researching my options, I found Dr. Glaser and St. Charles Vision, and now I couldn’t be happier. I travel from the northshore for my appointments and really wish I could wear them 24/7.”
The success of SynergEyes® can be attributed to its actual composition – a contact lens – made up of both soft and hard lenses. Patients who have Astigmatism, nearsightedness, bi-focals, Keratoconus or who have had negative affects post eye surgery, are those who all have a Cornea that is not spherical in shape. This makes fitting a traditional or soft contact lens difficult and as a result the patient is rarely able to wear such contacts with success. With SynergEyes®, there is a soft component which allows for comfort, plus a hard center which provides crisp, clear vision. This hybrid of contact lenses actually recreates a rounded surface over the cornea, which allows it to work successfully.
“Before this technology existed, people with such conditions of the Cornea were not able to wear contact lenses” stated Dr. Charles Glaser of the Uptown St. Charles Vision location, “This is an amazing break-through that allows us to individually fit each patient with a custom made contact that in many cases provides 20/20 vision and excellent comfort.”
St. Charles Vision is ahead of the curve, providing this expertise and product that is not readily available at other clinics and offices. SynergEyes® is truly changing the way people view contact lenses, especially those who have previous difficulty in wearing them.
“SynergEyes® is a revolutionary improvement on the traditional contact lens,” stated Dr. James McGuinness of the Elmwood St. Charles Vision location “People who have for years tried and persevered through, sometimes a painful experience of wearing ill-fitted lenses, are receiving a level of comfort and vision that was not previously available.”
The Exam and Fitting: When a patient arrives for a SynergEyes® fitting, the first step is a topography exam using high tech equipment, which displays an actual map of the front of the eye. This is important because the results indicate to the doctor which lens will be appropriate for the surface of the cornea. The patient is then fitted with several options and the selection is made upon discovering the best comfort level and vision acuity.
The Cost: St. Charles Vision does accept insurance and with some carriers SynergEyes® is covered. The cost of this hybrid contact lens starts at $800, and includes the eye exam, contact lens fitting and product.
