All-Automated Eye Exam Takes Minutes and Provides State-of-the-Art Results

Throughout the Greater New Orleans Area, St. Charles Vision is known for its high fashion frames and commitment to being the city’s contact lens specialists. In keeping with its “Look Forward” quest, the locally owned group of eye care specialists, provide a state-of-the-art eye exam that surpasses results unattainable with the traditional assessment.

The eye exam begins with the OPD-Scan II, which measures the prescription of each eye, and also provides high quality images of the corneal topography. This is especially beneficial for the contact lens patient. This technology also analyzes the day and nighttime vision which is the first of its’ kind. The results are then electronically transferred into the patient’s medical records. This allows for a seamless and error free transmission of all information collected.

The star of this show is the Optomap® – a comfortable and quick retinal eye exam that requires absolutely no dilation of the pupil. An image is taken of the back of the eye that exposes a 200° view of the retina for the doctor to examine. High quality images are captured electronically and immediately transferred to the patient’s electronic chart. This not only allows for permanent documentation, but also allows for the doctor to present and discuss the actual images with the patient within seconds.

Once inside the examination room, all information from the previous scans is transferred into the automated Total Refraction System (TRS), which determines your prescription for distance and reading, creating a paperless process that also reduces misinformation or human mistakes from occurring.

Glaucoma Testing: For those with a family history of Glaucoma, the advanced GDx test can detect early signs of the disease 5-7 years prior to vision loss from this eye disease. Traditionally, Glaucoma has been tested solely by measuring a person’s eye pressure. The GDx, however, uses a laser to determine the thickness of the nerve fiber layer. Since 50% of people that have Glaucoma are unaware they have it, this technology is key in early detection and prevention.

St. Charles Vision also offers the Zeiss OCT (Ocular Coherence Tomography) Nerve Fiber Analyzer exam. This is a revolutionary technology that provides 3-D cross-sectional images of the retinal tissue. It is useful for the diagnosing and monitoring of retinal diseases including Macular Degeneration and Glaucoma, both of which can result in severe vision loss.

“St. Charles Vision is committed to staying ahead of the curve in providing cutting edge technology,” stated Dr. Charles Glaser of the Uptown location, “We want to be able to provide only the latest in early detection of eye disease, plus be able to offer, to patients, top quality service and products.”
