Dr. Bank received his Bachelor's degree from the University of Louisiana in Monroe, Louisiana in 1978 with a major in Health Sciences and a minor in Physics. While attending UL Monroe, Dr. Bank was selected to Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities in 1977 and was elected to Alpha Epsilon Delta, an Academic Honor Society for Medical Degrees, in 1978. He was a member of Kappa Sigma social fraternity and was the leader of PREP orientation staff; a group of select students chosen to educate incoming freshman to the University.
Dr. Bank began pursuing his optometry degree at the prestigious Southern College of Optometry (SCO) in the fall of 1979. Dr. Bank was one of seven Louisiana recipients of a full scholarship to SCO. During his junior year at SCO, Dr. Bank was selected by the faculty to educate freshman students on clinical skills. During his senior year, he completed three highly regarded clinical rotations. The first was at St. Luke’s Eye Hospital in Florida where the main emphasis was on ocular disease. The second was in Waipahu, Hawaii with Dr. Stanley Yamane, the country’s foremost authority on contact lenses. The final clinical rotation was in VanNuys, California, with Dr. Donald Getz, with an emphasis on the care of the pediatric patient. Dr. Bank was a member of Omega Delta Optometric Fraternity. He was also one of twelve students selected in his senior year to Gold Key Honor Society for excellence in academics and leadership.
After receiving his Doctor of Optometry degree from SCO in 1983, Dr. Bank completed a residency in Winterhaven, Florida at the Winterhaven Eye Clinic, with an emphasis on ocular disease. He then came to New Orleans where he began working for Dr. Charles Glaser, who is now Dr. Bank’s business partner in St. Charles Vision. He established the Severn location in 1986 and has been here since.
Dr. Bank is Louisiana State Board Therapeutic Certified, Texas State Board Certified and Florida State Board Certified. He is National Board Certified and has completed the International Association of Board of Examiners’ Treatment and Management of Ocular Disease Certification.
Dr. Bank is a member of the Louisiana State Optometric Association (LSOA), the American Optometric Association (AOA) and the Contact Lens Section of the AOA. After the completion of extensive testing, Dr. Bank was granted Fellowship in the American Academy of Optometry in 1994, an accomplishment only 3% of his colleagues ever attain.
Dr. Bank is an active member of the New Orleans Community. He currently serves as Legislative Committee Chairman of the New Orleans Optometric Zone and the Jewish Family Service Teen Life Counts Board. He is married to Melissa and has four children. Dr. Bank is an avid golfer and enjoys working out everyday.
